1962-ish “Route 66” Corvette When I was a kid, my dad told me about this TV series that he used to watch. It had two young guys travelling around America in a Corvette. That was it. The whole premise of the show was that two blokes, a hot sports car, and America was so interesting that it would be great TV. According to Wikipedia, the show lasted three seasons. GM sponsored the show so the stars got a different car each season. This is my favourite Corvette, the last of the C1 series with the “duck tail” rear. The show was shot in black-and-white so the needed the car to be a colour that would look good. The first season the car was pale blue and in the second and third seasons it was fawn beige. This photo is from the remarkable site, Ohio 66, which catalogues shooting locations from the show. The photo was taken: at the Westminster Service Station during the filming of Some Of The People Some Of The Time by Peggy Fleming Lay, daughter-in-law of station owner Kenneth E. Lay. 1969 Corvette Ok, so this one is gold which isn’t strictly brown but that lovely stripe across the headlights and over the fenders more than makes up for it. O beautiful, for spacious skies, For amber waves of grain… What’s that? That’s not grain, it’s just grass by the roadside? Hush, you’re spoiling the mood. (Pic via the Northern California chapter of the NCRS. I have no idea what NCRS means, but they’re a Corvette club. The car, appropriately, belongs to Mike Brown.
